Flown in the checked baggage compartment and somehow managing to not shatter into a million pieces, I was gifted a bottle of this gem from a friend deep in the heart of Texas. He knows I’m a fan of beers from far and wide, and thought to bring one of his hometown favorites to grace my taste buds. And let me be the first to tell you, it did not disappoint in the slightest.
Blood & Honey from Revolver Brewing is brewed with blood orange peel, locally-sourced honey, and spices. It pours a deep golden hue, reminiscent of… well, honey. It smells sweetly and aromatic, with an abundance of citrus zest. Upon first taste, it tingles the palate with crispness and slight bitterness. This is definitely a warm-weather beer, but I’m just as happy indulging when the mercury is hovering just above 10° Fahrenheit.
Light and refreshing, this ale really caught my attention. Fortunately, I’ll be taking a trip to the Lonestar State in a few weeks and, should the winds blow in my favor, be given the opportunity to taste this once more at the source. Perhaps this time, I can try its brethren, at which point I will be reporting back here. If Revolver’s others are this good, I think I will he found a new brewery on my list of Must Tries.
