Over the weekend I had the pleasure of visiting Chicago. I was in town for the wedding of a very special friend of mine, and while there I stayed with my pal and all-around awesome dude Steele DePew. He is currently a chef and the resident cocktail creator at The Peasantry in Lincoln Park. I got into the city around 8pm and went straight to the restaurant. In addition to their awesome food, they also have some pretty great craft beers on tap. Despite being in the Windy City, I had to go for an Ohio beer, Great Lakes Silver & Gold IPL.

That’s right, an Indian Pale Lager. I have to say, it was the first of its kind for me, and I was not disappointed. Obviously, since Silver & Gold is a lager, it’s darker than your typical IPA, and it definitely has a more pronounced mouthfeel. However, it still has that hoppy flavor us pale ale drinkers love, and ends with a piney finish. Making this beer even more incredible is the fact that it was brewed specially for Great Lakes Brewing Company’s 25th Anniversary. An exceptional beer for an exceptional weekend!
